I haven't done a 'special order' in years and this one kinda scared me. I asked the customer before she brought it if it was wood. "Yes."
But, when this little sewing machine cabinet arrived............
I discovered that the drawer fronts were some kind of synthetic ??? plastic-like material. This would have scared me off a few months ago, but since I've started using CHALK PAINT, I thought "no problem".
So, after taking the hardware off, I mixed my paint. She wanted a green, but a little brighter than my OOPS green by Behr.
Soooo, I mixed in some of this Devoe Green Apple that I had my local paint store mix. This gave me the color I was lookin for, but ................
then I added the MIRACLE INGREDIENT that makes the paint literally stick to anything. Click HERE for several different recipes, but I do use the Plaster of Paris mixture.
After two coats of paint, the entire piece is sanded. Here my speedy fingers are brushing away the dust left from the chalk paint. (It does make more dust than sanding regular paint.)
Click below to see the REST of the story. 8-)
My customer said she knew it wasn't 'in style' like it once was........but she still wanted me to paint some of my free hand flowers on the piece. Soooo, here they are.
I start with green vines, then green leaves...........next add little buds and dot flowers. To finish, I do what I call
connecting the dots..........just bring it all together by painting 'stems' for all the flowers and leaves.
And finally, on this piece, I used Johnson's Paste Wax and gave the entire piece 2 coats, but gave the top about 4 coats for more protection.
Put the hardware BACK on.
Oh, and she brought this precious piano stool which she wanted to be painted to match the table.
And...........ta da..............here is the finished set.
I was actually very nervous for her to pick it up. But, thank goodness, she was thrilled.
Sooooo, what cha think???
If you're in my area, I'd love to paint a special piece just for you. 8-)

DeleteI love this! You did a great job on the flowers! That's some real talent. Do you find that the Johnson's Paste Wax is the same thing as Minwax's paste? I've though about using that before and always wondered. Loved to know!
ReplyDeleteI haven't used Minwax in sometime. I couldn't find it when I wanted to do this project, but really can't tell much difference. Good luck and yes, let me know what you think.
