EASY TABLE MAKEOVER

I had only a little while to paint, so I looked for a piece that would be a quickie.  So, I searched my stash in the garage, and, 'WhaLa'  I knew this one would be simple and somewhat fast. It needed little prep, since the finish was basically gone.

LOOK AT THE DETAIL!!! I knew it would turn out good.

I just wiped it clean, then painted the legs and skirt with one of my favorite paints....Behr, in ultra pure white (blurry pic, but you get the idea)

Then the top was painted black, using Glidden's black.  Let dry, then sand edges to give it that perfect shabby look.

Then to bring out the detail, I'm gonna do a wash of black over the white areas.  Using the same black that I painted the top with, place just a little on a Styrofoam plate, add enough water to make an ink-like consistency.  Then using a small brush, brush this mixture over the legs and skirt.

Let it stand for just a few minutes.

Then with a soft cloth or paper towel, wipe back most of the black wash to show the detail......leaving the black wash in the creases and cracks.

TaaDaa!!  Finished Product.  What cha think?  I thought it turned out great.  You could put a couple coats of varnish or wax on the top, but I liked the flat look, so left it as it was.

Just a hint of the wood shows through.

And, this one sold about 15 minutes after I sat it out in the shop.  YEAAA!!

Hope you enjoyed.  I think I'll show you pics of the little green shelf that is in my header for my next BEFORE and AFTER.

  8. So glad you stopped by my blog! Thank you for such nice comments. Your blog looks like it will be fun! I love picking and painting just never got into enough. I think being in California makes it hard. There's not a lot to pick and when you do find something it's a lot of $$ :) I'm a new follower and look forward to seeing what you get!

  10. Candy....love how this table turned out and using watered down paint instead of glaze. I'll have to give that a try. Plus your blog looks great and your pics in your header are the perfect size unlike mine :)

  11. Thanks so much, Sue. But, I enjoyed your blog thoroughly..........looked great too. I did the header on something called 'Picnik', but then just a few days after signing up for it, I got an email that they were closing their sight? So, don't know where to go to do that again?? Maybe you know.
