WHAT COLOR???

How should I paint this old piece.  It had sat in my garage for at least a year.  I'd even taken the hardware off waaay back then.  But, today was the day she was to get a NEW LOOK.
I couldn't decide.  Should she be turquoise or celery green.

It looked as though she'd sat in a barn maybe, since the finished had bubbled up from the heat.
There were even spider nests on the bottoms of the drawers.

The mirror had to be removed from it's frame so that I could get to all those edges.  Just look at the finish.  First I thought I'd sand all those old varnish bubbles OFF.  But, after trying to do just a little of that, I decided that I REALLY just LOVED that bubbled up finish.....part of this girl's character, don't cha think?

Okay, after just a bit of sanding, I painted the entire piece black.  But, I still wasn't sure what color she should be for the next few years.

Then, after looking at that gorgeous old hardware again, I finally decided.

Click below to see her new color.

Yeah, she just had to be PINK.  The 'so pretty' hardware and that gorgeous old beveled mirror just shouted GIRLY PINK to me.

Soooo, she gets two coats of my favorite cottage PINK.

Then, with my lil MOUSE, I gave her a reeeeeally good sanding.......especially around the edges.

After dusting er off, take an old or cheap brush and brush on Minwax Special Walnut.  I always work in small areas.  Almost as quickly as I brush it on, I wipe it off, using a paper towel or soft cloth.

Oh, and I always multi-task.  Painted those two concrete leaves bright green while I was waiting for the pink paint to dry.  Then they'll be ready to stain/antique at the same time I antique the dresser.

A little masking tape around the mirror saves cleanup..............soooo, I actually taped this piece.  I don't usually take the extra time and have to use a razor blade to get the paint off the mirror.  8-/

So, here's the mirror AND the leaves AFTER they've been antiqued.......

and................a drawer after antiquing, and hardware put back on.  I loved it just as it was, showing it's age, so I didn't do a thing to it.

Here you can see the black shining through and the sheen of the finish left from the Minwax.

Reattach the mirror,

And, here she is, all girly whirly PINK.  Add some black accents and I think she is adorable.

What cha think?

Hope to see All Ya'll back here soon.  8-)

  10. Pink is one of my favorite colors (along with green) so I think you picked a great choice. I like how you aged it so the piece isn't too bubble gum girly pink, but a wonderful shabby pink. Thanks for sharing with us at Your Cozy Home Party!

  14. How fun to do pink! The black showing through is a good contrast. Love to see that someone else also lets stuff sit a while before getting around to it. Great job!
